The title says it all. Finally, a clear, concise explanation of all the screens, buttons, menus and layouts. What also surprised me is how well this served as a primer on the basics of sound synthesis, i.e. LFO's, Oscillators, Filters etc. Can't recommend it enough.
No nonsence information - Need a DVD ROM drive! July 11, 2007 Bobby W. (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Excellent and a must-have if you own Absynth 3, the tutorial is presented in a laid-back, but no fluff format. Currently Absynth is in version 4, but most of the information here can be used with this version as well, although the method of organizing and accessing patches has changed significantly.
Interesting interview with Brian Clevinger, the brain behind Absynth.
The other bonus artist interviews were toss-offs in my opinion.
Also, for the lack of solid documentation Native provides for a piece of software that isn't cheap (all of their software manuals seem to have about a 60 page limit), they should have included this DVD ROM with the application.
excellent April 13, 2006 T. Stanley (Oregon) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Popped this in last night. The information is articulated so clearly and concisely, it makes understanding absynth easier than i could imagine. Also offers great information on the basics of sound design.
International Buyer Beware!!!!!!! October 30, 2007 M. Lovink (Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great product! However, international buyers BEWARE! Customs charges are almost if not more than the DVD itself. I had to pay almost an extra $40 in customs and "brokerage" fees for this item. DO NOT BUY this item off of Amazon. Search for it locally or from another online store! Save your money!
The most amazing synth and synth tutorial ever! December 23, 2008 Mario Ghecea (Burbank, CA) This is the standard by which all synth tutorials should be made, period! Crystal clear, concise and complete! The video is extremelly detailed and let me rephrase this, Absynth entails a complex architecture, that is not easily understood by most of the synthesis newcomers by just plugging it in and trying to figure it out...The reason for this is due to the fact that most likely, the last 30 years of synthesis knowledge have been packed into this amazing artform of a synth and it does it all so transparently by adding it's own NI flavors of custom syntesis features! Kudos to NI for delivering masterpiece synth Absynth! In the tutorial DVD, Master synthesis guru "Brian Smith" from NI, Berlin, takes us deep within the abyssal architecture that is Absynth with almost a child like enthusiasm for the various features of this deep synth and he does this without breaking a sweat! He is very coherent as a presenter/sound designer as he strolls off explaining the rich Absynth feature set, not skimping on it's vast array of features and going through the various synth sections methodically with you step by step. He quite often presents techniques and his own insight gathered from hands on experience throughout the length of the tutorial while he manages to masterfully create his own simplified presets for the sake of clarity. At the end of the more advanced sections he will often use gorgeous granular synthesis models and sampled waveforms to create rythmic pitch envelopes for example, since the flexible, feature rich envelopes are the main reasons why people get into Absynth in the first place! The envelopes sections and LFO sections are a must! That section of the tutorial would make it worth the money spent on this tutorial alone...I'm not new to synthesis. I own several Korg hardware synths (AMS, sampled and FM syntesis). I also own just about every NI synth released including Massive and Reaktor and their latest KORE subsystem and I must say these guys are the true masters of synthesized sound in recent times as you will find out from the stellar reviews just about everywhere! In my opinion (shared by many other synth freaks) NI has revolutionized various forms of sound synthesis to date and if you don't believe it, just look at their not too shabby credits in the sound FX arena of the movie industry! Absynth is the synth of choice for surround sound creation, so you are rolling with a bit more than a winning synth + greatest tutorial on sound design combination PERIOD! I am also fortunate to have acquired Absynth 4 from their collection and have recently bought the Absynth 3 DVD to further educate myself and I cannot speak enough for this DVD...If this video was scratched or lost, I would order it again and again and I would buy more copies as a gift for those interested in sound synthesis! Yes, NI products are just that great and no, I don't work for them or are endorsed by them! Happy Synth Programming to all and thanks NI for the gift of excellent sound! Also, great job Mr. Brian Smith, looking forward to more of your tutorials in the future...
